Harrells Christian Academy Senior, Kelly Nelms, signed his
letter of intent to play football at Furman University on Monday February 17.
Nelms knew he wanted to play football at the next level throughout his career
as a Crusader. Nelms played football at Harrells for six years beginning in
seventh grade. The HCA all purpose back rushed for 1,379 yards on 144 carries
as a senior and scored 17 touchdowns in a superb Crusader rushing attack that
ranked sixth in the state in total rushing yards. Nelms did not only find a way
to make an impact on offense but also contributed to the Crusaders success on
defense and special teams. He finished the season with 2,079 all purpose yards
on the season and found the end zone 23 times.
Nelms helped his team reach the State
Championship game as a senior at Harrells. Kelly was named to the all
conference and all state team as a senior. Nelms not only succeeded on the
football field but also in classroom. He is a member of Beta Club and
challenges himself with multiple honors and A.P. classes. Nelms hopes to carry
his success to Furman and excel as a student athlete as a Paladin.
